The BIG Chipper evolved from a broad edged grub hoe into a multi functional edged tool, where cutting is more important than raking. It’s great for removing lots of material and includes a large and small hoe edge, flat scraping edge and curved scraping edge and has two positions for handle attachment, centred or hoe edge weighted.
The Pro Trail Tool evolved from the standard McLeod into an optimised “Do it All” professional trail tool with strong, short rake teeth, cutting / hoe edge, flat scraping edge and curved scraping edge, combining together to allow users to make the most of every side of the tool.
Customised options are available, contact me to discuss your specific tool needs.
The Pro Trail Tool and Big Chipper have been designed, developed and partially manufactured by me and are registered designs with IP Australia. I developed these models after being frustrated with poor performing tools that were supposedly "professional quality" but were never designed for trail work and generally didn't last long before they were either bent or damaged beyond repair.
These tools are the first to incorporate IMBA recommended trail alignment angles into their design and the first to use a curved scraping edge, allowing users to more easily create or follow curved shapes in their trail (see images below). Both models are manufactured in Australia using materials best suited for their use. The tool head is laser cut from Australian high carbon spring steel, the handle sleeve is American made 4130 Chrome-Molly, the handle shaft is custom pultruded fibreglass, all the bolts are 12-9 grade high tensile steel with 316 stainless steel washes and Nylon nuts locking it all together. The bolt together construction allows for changing of tool heads, pack down for storage or transport or maintenance of parts.
Trail signage is a key factor in the development of any trail system. Good signage allows users to make educated choices on trail grade, distance and experience, and can be the difference between a fun day out or an epic mission. I have produced trail signs from large trail head information boards to small individual trail markers and I can either supply the individual file for you to print and fitting or I can provide a full printing and installation service to your requirements.
Many of the trail networks around the Snowy Mountains feature trail head and trail marker signs I have produced, with the oldest being on display year round since 2010 and still looking great with no fading or weather damage. This is an important factor to consider as when producing signage as you want to ensure the long term durability of the signage.
If you would like to know more about what signage can be produced or to request a quote, please contact me.
From trail building and maintenance tools, trail maps and signage, I can help you make the most of your trails and provide you with high quality products specific to your needs.
Even though I personally focus on mountain biking, my services are not restricted to this and I have produced tourist and ski trail maps and signs.
The tools I've developed are great for landscapers, builders, fire fighters, forestry and emergency services, property maintenance, 4x4'ers and many more. Anywhere you need a good tough rake or hoe, theses tools work and work hard. They are being used by several trail maintenance groups and professional construction companies with great success.
